Chu said on Twitter that the Wicked movie will be released in two parts, with the first premiering on December 25, 2024, and the sequel on December 25, 2025. However, the release dates have been pushed forward.
The new release date for Wicked: Part 1 is November 27, 2024, while the release date for Wicked: Part 2 is November 26, 2025, which is precisely a year later.

Does Wicked: Part One Have a Trailer?
The first trailer for “Wicked” was unveiled at the Super Bowl on Sunday.
This brief trailer shows Glinda floating in her enchanted bubble, Dorothy Gale appearing in book-appropriate shoes, and Elphaba flying through the air on her broomstick.
The preview gives us the impression that the Wizard is intimidating, and it shows the scene where Glinda and Elphaba first meet at Shiz University, with the future good witch surprised by Elphaba’s green appearance.
Along with the incomparable Michelle Yeoh, we also catch views of the flying monkeys and Emerald City.

What is Wicked: Part One all about?
It’s expected for Wicked to have the same storyline as the original production. In case you’re not familiar with the plot, here’s what it’s about.
The Wicked Witch of the West is named Elphaba after L. Frank Baum, the original author of The Wizard of Oz had a rough upbringing her entire life due to her green-skinned, and unexplained birth.
It might not seem like a big deal to have green skin in a mythical realm full of talking animals and sleep-inducing flowers, but the Oz in this narrative is a little more complicated than in previous Oz stories.
Moving on, Elphaba gains admission to Shiz University, where she will meet the all-powerful Wizard of Oz, a rival in the form of Glinda the Good Witch and a love interest in Prince Fiyero.

It should go without saying that Elphaba and Glinda, the two main female characters need strong actors.
The original Broadway had Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth playing Glinda. This combination produced a memorable experience for the audience.
However, they won’t be the ones acting these roles in the movie. Rather, award-winning Cynthia Erivo and pop sensation Ariana Grande will take their place.

Is Wicked: Part One Still Filming?
No, the filming of Wicked: Part One was concluded in January 2024. This left a lasting impression on its stars’ hearts.

Erivo posted a picture of a switch defying gravity while reflecting on the emotional aspects of the production in a message to her fans.
Bailey also addressed Fiyero specifically in his brief but kind remark.

Meanwhile, the original plan was to begin filming Wicked: Part One in June 2022.
After it was revealed that the adaptation would be divided into two parts, it was postponed. Filming started in London in December 2022.

The two “Wicked” movies will be directed by Jon M. Chu. This director looks like the ideal choice for an exciting and fantastical musical.
