Elon Musk announced Twitter’s new logo ‘X‘ which is one of the planned changes to the social media network under his leadership, removing the recognizable bird logo.
Sunday afternoon, the Tesla CEO tweeted, “X.com now points to twitter.com. Later today, the interim X logo will go up.”
Musk paid $44 billion (£34 billion) for the website in October. He tweeted that he planned to replace the blue bird silhouette with an “X” emblem as early as Monday if a suitable design was presented.
Musk officially changed the company’s name to X Holdings Corp in April, taking inspiration from his first business, X.com. Highlighting his goal of building “X, the everything app,” which would handle social networking and payment services akin to China’s WeChat.
Twitter’s new chief executive Linda Yaccarnio on a new logo
On Sunday, Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, announced the X brand’s debut. It’s exceedingly unusual to have a second chance to leave a lasting impression, whether in life or in business, the author tweeted. Twitter left a lasting effect and revolutionized communication. The worldwide town square will now undergo additional transformation thanks to X.
Moreover, Yaccarino said ‘X’ to be “centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking” and would be a “global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities”. She added: “X will be the platform that can deliver, well … everything.”
Elon Musk’s announcement of the new Twitter logo
As was to be expected, Musk’s account was the first to make the planned removal of Twitter’s emblem public when he tweeted- “And shortly we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
“If a decent enough X logo is uploaded tonight, we’ll make it go live globally tomorrow,” said an additional message.
However, Musk went on to say that the reason he changed the emblem was “to embody the imperfections in us all that make us unique”. He also posted a photo of himself making an “X” symbol with crossed arms. In front of a poster for the Tesla Model X car, with the caption: “Not sure what subtle clues gave it away, but I like the letter X.”
