Andre Braugher’s death news has thrown fans into mourning as he passes away at 61.

The news of Andre Braugher’s death, popular actor on “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” was confirmed by Jennifer Allen, his publicist. She said the star died on Monday after struggling with lung cancer.

His breakthrough performance was in the 1989 film Glory, co-starring Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.

However, it was not until four years later that he became well-known for his part as Detective Frank Pembleton in “Homicide: Life on the Street.”

Andre Braugher, a Chicago native, studied acting at Juilliard School after earning a degree from Stanford University.

He became popular for his portrayal of a tough police officer in the 1990s Baltimore crime series “Homicide,” which showed the difficulties of enforcing the law in a city plagued by killings.

He played his detective role for 100 episodes, and he was awarded a Primetime Emmy for lead actor in a drama series.

Also, for his role as the head of a group preparing a high-stakes heist in the 2006 FX miniseries “Thief”, Braugher won his second Emmy.

In his career, Andre Braugher has made a lasting impression as Owen Thoreau Jr., costarring with Ray Romano and Scott Bakula in the 2009 TNT comedy “Men of a Certain Age”.

This was after taking over for Wendell Pierce. That earned him two Emmy nominations.

In addition, Andre has voiced California Governor Woodchuck Coodchuck in television series and films. In 2022, he played journalist Dean Baquet in “She Said”, his movie appearance.

It’s unknown if filming for the Netflix television series “The Residence”, in which he was to feature was completed prior to his passing.

Tributes have started pouring in for the star describing him as an absolute treasure and a character that brought joy into people’s lives.

Braugher is survived by his three kids, Michael, Isaiah, and John, as well as his wife, Ami Brabson, whom he got married to in 1991.
