The professional golfer Rory McIlroy has recently filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll after seven years of marriage. This announcement was made barely a few days before the start of the PGA Championship, which will kick off this week.
McIlroy, 35, was the one who filed the paperwork in Palm Beach County, Florida on May 13th. The couple share a 3-year-old daughter, Poppy.
According to the attorney representing McIlroy, the golfer is asking for shared custody of their daughter and will be enforcing the prenuptial agreement that McIlroy and his wife signed before their wedding in 2017.

How was Rory McIlroy’s Relationship With His Wife?
Erica Stoll has been a constant source of support for Rory McIlroy throughout their relationship. She was the one who was always at his tournaments, even pushing his ball at the 2023 Masters Par 3 contest.
Their relationship goes back to 2012, the year they met at the Ryder Cup when Stoll was working as a transport official for the PGA of America.
On that day, Stoll helped McIlroy get a police escort to the course as he almost missed his tee time due to the time zone mix-up. Although sparks didn’t fly immediately, their paths crossed again two years after McIlroy ended his engagement with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
McIlroy and Stoll’s relationship grew, and they got married at an expensive wedding in Ireland in 2017. Stoll supported McIlroy in all his golf tournaments like the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy.
Even though they had a good and supportive relationship, McIlroy has decided to file for divorce. The actual cause of the splitting is not yet known.
McIlroy’s team has stressed their aim of a friendly separation, focusing on the daughter’s well-being as they go through this difficult period. We can only wish them all the best!
